Amtrak overnight Sleeper to Glacier National Parks "Empire Builder"of the Great Northern Railway at the border of Glacier National Park, Montana This postcard photograph was taken in circa 1940s. The Empire Builder is a passenger train operated by Amtrak in the regions of Midwestern and Northwestern United States. It is Amtrak's busiest long-distance route and daily train, carrying more than 500,000 travelers annually in the years of 2007-2010. Before Amtrak, the Empire Builder was the flagship train of the Great Northern Railway. The current route runs between Chicago and the Pacific Northwest.
