Showa Commemorative National Government Park is a national government park in Tachikawa, Tokyo.
It is the largest park in Tokyo, covering 165.3 ha (408 acres). Formerly a Japanese military airbase
and in the postwar era operated by the US military, Tachikawa Airfield was returned to the Japanese
government in 1977. Part of the airfield remains a Japan Ground Self Defense Force base, while the
remainder of the airfield was used to establish Showa Commemorative Park in 1983 as part of a project
to commemorate the emperor's Golden Jubilee. .The park can be best accessed from Nishi-Tachikawa
Station on the JR Ome line.

国営昭和記念公園は、東京都立川市と昭島市に跨る公園で、「昭和天皇御在位五十年記念事業」の一環として、
戦後米軍が旧立川飛行場を接収した立川市と昭島市の両市にまたがる立川基地跡地のうち、180haを記念公園と
して建設することが決定され、「緑の回復と人間性の向上」をテーマに1978年より施設整備が進められてきた。
1983年10月に昭和天皇臨席のもとに開園、レインボープールや子供の森、日本庭園、砂川口、盆栽苑等次々と
施設が整備された。 本公園は立川基地跡に開設されており、レクリエーション施設としての面もあるが、立川市と
昭島市の広域避難場所の一つに指定されている。JR青梅線 西立川駅と歩道橋で結ばれ、西立川口まで徒歩2分。
