Izumo-taisha (出雲大社, "Izumo Grand Shrine") is one of the most ancient and important
Shinto shrines in Japan. No record gives the date of establishment. Located in Izumo,
Shimane Prefecture, it is home to two major festivals. It is dedicated to the god kuninushi
(大国主大神), famous as the Shinto deity of marriage and to Kotoamatsukami, distinguishing
heavenly kami. The shrine is believed by many to be the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan,
even predating the Ise Grand Shrine.

出雲大社は、日本で最も古く、重要な神社の一つです。創建年代を示す記録は残っていません。
島根県出雲市にあるこの神社では、二つの大きな祭りが執り行われます。ご祭神は、縁結びの
神として知られる大国主大神と、天の神である別天津神（ことあまつかみ）です。出雲大社は、

2018年7月に6年ぶりの架け換え・奉納が予定されている出雲大社神楽殿の「大しめ縄」。 その大きさは日本最大級で
全長13.6メートル、重量5.2トンに及びます。 数年ごとに交換されるこの「大しめ縄」は島根県の飯南町を舞台に
１年以上の歳月と延べ1000人の町民の手によって作られている 。
