Izumo-taisha (出雲大社, "Izumo Grand Shrine") is one of the most ancient and important
Shinto shrines in Japan. No record gives the date of establishment. Located in Izumo,
Shimane Prefecture, it is home to two major festivals. It is dedicated to the god ?kuninushi
(大国主大神), famous as the Shinto deity of marriage and to Kotoamatsukami, distinguishing
heavenly kami. The shrine is believed by many to be the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan,
even predating the Ise Grand Shrine.

2018年7月に6年ぶりの架け換え・奉納が予定されている出雲大社神楽殿の「大しめ縄」。 その大きさは日本最大級で全長13.6メートル、
重量5.2トンに及びます。 数年ごとに交換されるこの「大しめ縄」は島根県の飯南町を舞台に１年以上の歳月と延べ1000人の町民の手に
よって作られている
