A huge Buddhist stature, Byakue-Kannon ( white-robed Kannon ) on the top
of Mount Kannonyama
This Kannon statue is tall with the height of 41.8 meters and the weight
of 6,000 tons. Since it was built in 1936,
the great statue has been popular among citizens as the symbol of Takasaki.
Visitors can walk inside the statue up
to the height of its shoulder.
Takasaki Station
Takasaki has a population of about 380,000 concentrated around the main
station, which is connected to Tokyo
via the Joetsu Shinkansen or Shonen-Shinjuku line. When you take a shinkansen
line from Tokyo Station, it may
take one hour-ride. From Shinjuku Station, it is wise to take the Shonan-Shinjuku
Line to Takasaki.
It takes two hours. There are buses to Mount Kannonyam from the railway
station.
