山手トンネルは、首都高速道路中央環状線の北端、大井JCT高松入口側から順次開通・延伸され、平成27年（2015年）の全線開通に
よって、全長18.2 km となった。道路トンネルとしては日本一の長さであり、 世界でもノルウェーのラルダールトンネルに次いで
2番目に長いという。 全長、外回り：18,597 m、内回り：18,098 m である。 両側4車線で設計速度は60 km/h首都高速中央
環状線のうち、大井JCT - 高松間に位置し、大半の区間で山手通りの地下を通り, 大井JCT,五反田出入口間では目黒川と京浜運河の
下を通る水底トンネルでもある。最深部は南品川換気塔付近で、地表から約55 mの深さになる。約7割の区間がシールド工法で
建設されている。都市の地下全線開通により、谷川連峰を貫通する関越自動車道の関越トンネル（全長:上り線11,055 m、下り線
10,926 m）を抜き、日本最長の道路トンネルとなった。

The Yamate Tunnel carries the Central Circular Route (C2) of the Shuto Expressway in Tokyo, from the Takamatsu
on-ramp in Toshimato near the Ohi Junction in Shinagawa. It has a length of 18.2 kilometers. Lying 30 meters
below the surface, about 70 percent of the tunnel was constructed by the tunnel-shield method. The roadway
consists of two lanes in each direction. Nearly all the tunnel lies beneath Yamate Dori street. On completion,
the Yamate Tunnel surpassed the Kanetsu Tunnel through the Tanagawa mountain range, to become the longest
road-tunnel in Japan and the second longest road-tunnel in the world.
