Visual warning legislation took effect in New Zealand in February 2008. Some tobacco
companies already introduced cigarette tins with removable health warnings. This has
the potential to minimize the impact of the proposed graphic warning labels in New Zealand.

(R) A notice requesting customers to show ID card beforehand.

ニュージランド・タバコ販売状況

ニュージランドではタバコは対面販売方式を採用している。タバコ自販機は１台も見あたらなかった。
タバコの値段は一箱、9ドル40セント（2006年12月現在、１NZドル＝83円）から14ドル20セントまで
様々である。日本円に直すと１箱、780円から1180円となる。大部分は税金であるが、喫煙行為に
よって増大する医療費を埋め合わせるには適正な価格と言える。日本で販売されているタバコの
値段が一箱300円前後であること、都市では徒歩数分おきにタバコ自販機を設置していることなど
を考え合わせると、日本ではタバコの大バーゲンを行って、政府、ＪＴ一丸となってタバコの売り上げを
増加させようと必死になっていることが分かる。喫煙者の超過医療費を支えているのは、受動喫煙被害を
受けている非喫煙者であることを忘れてもらいたくない。

アイルランドではタバコの陳列棚に「SMOKERS DIE YOUNGER」の警告文が否が応でも注視される
ようにセットされていたが、ニュージランドではそれが「SMOKING KILLS」の警告文となっていた。
英語表示の下にマオリ語表示され、右下隅に小さく Ministry of Healthと記されている。
「TOBACCO１８＋ONLY」のラベルに挟まれて「 Showus your card 」とＩＤカードの提示を求めている。
さらに「NO CARD・NOSERVICE」とカードの提示のない場合はタバコ販売を行わないとしている。
