Lake Wanaka
Lake Wanaka is located in the southwest of New Zealand, at an altitude of 300 m. It is New Zealand's
fourth largest lake,and estimated to be more than 300 m deep. As other few lakes in the South Island
with an unmodified shoreline, the lake is protected by special legislation, the Lake Wanaka Preservation
Act of 1973. Wanaka is a town on the lake with which it shares its name.

(L) The Cardrona Valley Road which links Wanaka and Queenstown gets up to 1076 meters, the highest point in a paved road of New Zealand.
There was a severe snowstorm at crossing over the mountain pass, despite the season was in a mid-summer.
(R) A highway of New Zealand is well maintained and very comfortable to drive.
No trash is discarded in the roadside and no cigarette butt is observed.

美しい自然とマッチした喫煙規制
南島南部の山岳地帯にある細長い湖に面した町がワナカである。いくつかのホテル、レストランがあるが、魅力的な大自然を
満喫できる環境から別荘地としての評価も高い。タバコはガソリンスタンドやスーパーマーケットなどで販売されているが、
「Smoking Kiills」との警告がいやがおうでも目にはいるように表示されている。町は清潔でタバコの吸い殻など
全く見あたらない。全館禁煙のホテル内部はゲストルームを含めスモークフリーであるが、目立たないように黒い灰皿が
ロッジ先の屋外に逆さに置かれていた。
