あなたは受動喫煙（タバコ副流煙）の害を知っていますか？

日本人の受動喫煙（他人のタバコの煙を吸い込むこと）認知率の低さが問題となっている。
タバコを吸わない人々が平気でタバコの吸える飲食店を利用している現実、子供の目の
前でためらいなく喫煙する父親や母親、同乗者がいるのに、自動車の密室内でタバコを
吸う人々、家族鉄道旅行に喫煙車両の座席を予約する人々、数え切れないほどのタバコ
副流煙に関する無知が日本の社会に蔓延している。

2007年5月、製薬会社、ファイザーが、未就学児を持つ喫煙者の男女300人ずつを対象に
行ったインターネット調査の結果が公表された。母親300人で妊娠中の禁煙に成功した
人は137人にとどまり、 「途中で挫折」「本数を減らした」と回答した人が42人ずつ。
禁煙しなかった52人と合わせ、136人（45.3％）が妊娠中もタバコを吸っていた。

子供と飲食店に行った際、禁煙席を選ぶと答えたのは父親が131人（43.7％）に対し、
母親は115人（38.7％）である。一方、子供が同乗する車内でタバコを吸う父親は86人
（50％）、母親は87人（69％）と、半分の父親、3分の2以上の母親がタバコ副流煙の
毒性を無視している。愕然とする調査結果だが、自らの子供の健康にダメッジを与えて
いることを意識せず、日本人の受動喫煙に関する認知度が極めて低いことが分かる。

妊娠中の喫煙は流産、早産、低体重児の出産のリスクが確認されている。乳幼児突然
死症候群（SIDS）は母親が喫煙している場合は非喫煙者の４倍、父親が喫煙している
場合は1.5倍、両親とも喫煙している場合は、その死亡率は10倍になることが明らかに
なっている。

親の喫煙行為により出生児の脳や身体に異常を来すことがある。子供のときに受けた
受動喫煙は子供の成長抑制、運動能力低下、呼吸機能低下、知能低下をもたらす。精神
障害としては、攻撃的性格に象徴される注意欠陥多動運動障害発生の素地をつくる。
妊娠中の喫煙は子供の暴力的犯罪を倍増させるとの報告もある。小児癌（がん）原因の
15％は父親の喫煙によって引き起こされる。受動喫煙は小児喘息（ぜんそく）の最大の
原因であることは医学界の常識である。

developing, and exposure to the poisons in secondhand smoke puts them at risk of
severe respiratory diseases and can hinder the growth of their lungs.

Secondhand smoke exposure increases the risk of lower respiratory tract infections.

●　 Asthma　副流煙の悪影響の代表的疾患はぜんそくである
Asthma attacks are perhaps the most well-known adverse effect of secondhand-smoke
exposure among children.
