Pingvellir National Park

Pingvellir ( 'ping' means parliament, 'vellir' means meadows ) located in the southwestern part of Iceland.
This is a site of historical, cultural, and geological importance in Iceland. Pingvellir National Park was
founded in 1930 to protect the remains of the parliament site and was later expanded to protect natural
phenomena in the surrounding area, which never to be sold or mortgaged.

Geysir Strokkur

Strokkur is a geyser in the geothermic region beside the Hvita River in Iceland. It is one of the
Iceland'smost famous geysers, erupting regularly almost every four to eight minutes.

ユネスコの世界遺産に登録されているアイスランドのシングヴァトラヴァン湖を抱えたシングヴェトリルは、世界に
先駆け西暦930年から議会民主政治が開かれた場所で、当時の議会であったところに国旗が掲げられている。周辺は
地熱地帯でネーシャヴェトリル地熱発電所があり、地熱で暖められた熱湯が50キロ離れたレイキャヴィークの給湯
タンク、ペルトランに供給されている。アイスランドでの見せ場の一つはストックル間欠泉であろう。かっては70
メートルもの高さで吹き上げていたそうであるが、現在では４分から８分くらいの間隔で30メートル近くまで
噴出する。規模ではイエローストーン国立公園の間欠泉には及ばないが、その周囲には真っ青な温水池や湯ノ花で
埋まった原野が広がっている。
