Utoro is the largest and only sizable town along the western coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula. It is located
at the entrance to the national park, and offers a range of accommodations, with natural hot spring.

斜里市街から国道を知床岬方面に約50キロの位置にある。ウトロ港に知床観光船などの乗り場があり、
ウトロ温泉が広がっている。また、カムイワッカ湯の滝や知床五湖へ行くための道道の入口にもなっている。
国道沿いのウトロ港東側の海岸は夕日のビューポイントである。
