龍安寺は、京都市右京区にある臨済宗妙心寺派の寺院。妙心寺との関係が深く、山内塔頭と同様の扱いを受けている。
山号は大雲山と号し、石庭で知られる。本尊は釈迦如来、開基（創建者）は細川勝元、開山（初代住職）は義天玄承で
ある。「古都京都の文化財」として世界遺産に登録されている。

Ryoanji is a Zen temple located in northwest Kyoto. It belongs to the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai branch of
Zen Buddhism. The Ryoanji garden is considered one of the finest surviving examples of kare-sansui
('dry landscape'), a refined type of Japanese Zen temple garden design generally featuring distinctive larger
rock formations arranged amidst a sweep of smooth pebbles (small, carefully selected polished river rocks)
raked into linear patterns that facilitate meditation. The temple and its gardens are listed as one of the Historic
Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
