Smoking ban in a restaurant and hotel in Alaska

Anchorage has banned in all enclosed workplaces, including bars, restaurants, and private clubs.

Everyone in the Municipality of Anchorage is entitled to a smoke-free workplace and smoke-free
access to public places as defined in the smoking ordinance, AMC 16.65 with was amended in 2006
to prohibit smoking in all public places. In the Municipality of Anchorage smoking is prohibited in
many areas, including all public places, places of an employee. Effective July 1, 2007, smoking is
prohibited in all public places, including bars.

The winter time temperatures in Anchorage ranges between -15 to -1 degrees Celsius.
Even cold weather has not stopped cities in Alaska from passing ordinances that ban smoking in
restaurants, bars and work places. While Alaska does not have a statewide smoking ban, four
municipalities, including Juneau and Anchorage, have become 100 percent smoke free.


All rental cars are smokefree. In the event of smoking, a violator has to pay $ 250 cleaning fee.
