カルガリーはスタンピードで有名だが、筆者は1962年にカルガリーを訪れてスタンピード(カーボーイ暴れ馬大会）
を見物したが、予め購入していた指定席が柱の陰で、見にくいながらも大観衆とともに、ロデォショーを楽しんだ。
その日の朝は、カルガリーに入る幹線道路の両側には地元の人々が、私の車のイリノイ州ライセンスプレート名を
大きな声で読み上げて歓迎してくれたことなど、昨日のように思い出される。
Calgary is famous for stampede. I visited there in summer of 1962 and saw the stampede (Carboy Rampage
Tournament). Unfortunately, the reserved seat I had purchased in advance
were behind the pillars, and
therefore, it was somewhat difficult to see the whole picture. However,
I enjoyed the rodeo show with
a large audience. That morning, local people on both sides of the main road into Calgary, they read aloud
the Illinois car liscence plate number, welcoming guests from the United
State. It reminds me of it happened
just yesterday.
 1962 Calgary Stampede 50th Anniversary
そのカルガリーが50年の歳月を経て、石油・天然ガス産業、農業、ハイテク産業などの進展とともに高層ビルの林立する都市に生まれ変わっていた。
ダウンタウンから郊外にはトラムも走っている。夏（6月−8月）の平均気温は16℃で快適であるが、冬(11月−3月）の平均気温は-9℃と非常に寒い。
旅行中お会いした親切なカナダ人に、この席でお礼を申し上げたい。
