Smoke-free Public Place and Workplace Law
'Public Health and Workplace Safety Law' took effect in March, 2005. This
law prohibits smoking
in public places and workplaces in Rhode Island、protecting Rhode Islanders
at work and in indoor
places from the effects of secondhand smoke. The law ensures the environment
free from the
tobacco-smoke, for business owners, employees, and the public. Rhode Islanders
will reap
the health and economic benefits of being the smoke-free society.
A public place means an enclosed area to which the public is invited or
in which the public is

health care facilities,
laundromats, public transportation facilities, reception areas, restaurants,
retail food production
and marketing establishments, retail service establishments, retail stores,
shopping malls, sports
arenas.
