Michigan is a peninsular state in the Great Lakes region of the Upper Midwestern United States.
It shares water and land boundaries with Minnesota to the northwest, Wisconsin to the west, Indiana
and Illinois to the southwest, Ohio to the southeast, and the Canadian province of Ontario to the east,
northeast and north. With a population of 10.14 million. The state capital is Lansing, while its most
populous city is Detroit. The Metro Detroit region in Southeast Michigan is among the nation's most
populous and largest metropolitan economies. Other important metropolitan areas include Grand Rapids,
Flint, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, The peninsulas are separated by the Straits of Mackinac, which connects
Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, and are linked by the Mackinac Bridge along Interstate 75. Bordering
four of the five Great Lakes and Lake St. Clair, Michigan has the longest freshwater coastline of any

人口では全米第10位。州の北と東はスペリオル湖・ヒューロン湖を挟んでカナダの国境に接し、西はミシガン湖
越しにウィスコンシン州に、南はインディアナ州とオハイオ州に接している。ミシガン州は、北米における
自動車産業発祥の州として知られており、ゼネラルモーターズ（GM）の本社所在地であるデトロイトはその
代表である。また五大湖のうちの4つに囲まれているという地の利もあり、アメリカ・カナダの両方からの
観光客が多い州でもある。州域はロウアー半島とアッパー半島という2つの大きな半島で構成され、その間には
幅8 kmのマキナック海峡があり、ヒューロン湖とミシガン湖を繋いでいる。2つの半島はマキナック橋で
繋がれている。
