Mandarin Oriental Hotel Bangkok


The smoking-room rate to total guest rooms of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Bangkok is over 15%.

Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is a five-star hotel in Bangkok owned in part and managed by Mandarin
-Oriental Hotel Group. It is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the original structure was
the first hotel built in Thailand when it opened as The Oriental in 1879. The hotel is a favorite of
celebrity visitors to Bangkok. The hotel contains 358 rooms and 35 unique suites. The numbers of
smoking rooms are between 60 and 70. They cannot disclose the exact number. That means the
hotel provide the flexible room for smokers and non-smokers at the different day. The smoking-room
rate is 15-18% to the total guest rooms. There is a smoking place outside in a garden.

名門ホテルとして名高いバンコク・マンダリンホテルは19世紀の後半に開業して以来、多くの要人を迎えて
きたと言われる。古風な旧館は落ち着きがあるが、フロントなど人々の対応にはなぜか親しみを感じない。
総客数は393室、喫煙客室は60から70と言うが、正確な数は把握できていないとの答えだ。その意味するもの
は多分、喫煙、禁煙両用の部屋があると解釈される。喫煙室の総客室数に対する比率は、15〜18％である。
ロビー横の熱帯植物庭園脇（建物外）が喫煙所となっている。

The Peninsula Hotel Bangkok always welcomes a foreign guest and is located in a good river view
site of the Chao Phraya River.

The Peninsula Bangkok is a luxury hotel located at the end of the Charoennakon Road directly beside
the Chao Phraya River. This place is quiet, that is far separated from the Bangkok's urban noise.
The Hotel has own numerous awards for luxury and hospitality,as one of the best hotels in Bangkok.
Due to the W-shaped structure, there is a view over the river from all guest rooms. Total number of
rooms is 370. There are 120 smoking rooms. It locates on the 36th and 37th floor of the hotel.
The smoking-room rate to total is 32%. The attitude of hotel staffs was so good and friendly.

香港の名門ホテルは1998年に開業、高い天井にチーク材をふんだんに使った内装、なによりもすばらしい
ことは、ガードマン、ドアマン、フロントの人々の対応が気持ちよく、なごやかなことだ。総客数は
370室、喫煙客室は120で、36階と37階などにある。喫煙室の総客室数に対する比率は32％である。
チャオプラヤ川沿いには多くの高級ホテルが立ち並ぶが、喧噪のビジネス街とは全く違う別世界である。

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a Hong Kong based company. The hotel is complexes of two wings
over the view of the Chao Phraya River. It is located with an easy access to the Saphan Taksin BTS
station. The total number of guest room is 799. Of these, 93 are smoking-guest rooms. The smoking
-room rate to total guest rooms is 12%.

チャオプラヤ川に面し広大な敷地に二つのウィングが建つ。スカイトレインの終点、サパーンタクシン駅から
徒歩５分以内の利便性の高い場所にある。総客数は799, 喫煙客室数は約 93で、その比率は12%となる。


Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel Towers

The Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel is located near the Chao Phraya Express Boat Pier. It is convenient
to visit the Grand Palace and Wat Arun of Bangkok. The hotel staffs at the front-desk are friendly.
The total number of guest rooms is 740. Smoking guestrooms are 250, consisting the smoking-room
rate to total is 34%.

チャオプラヤ川を運行する急行ボート（Chao Phraya Express Boat）の発着場があり、王宮や
ワット・アルン（暁の寺）観光などに便利である。川向かいのミレニアム・ヒルトンホテルとの間
には頻繁にピストン輸送の連絡ボートサービスがある。フロントの対応もよい

Millennium Hilton Hotel, Bangkok is a luxury accommodation in Thailand's Capital. This hotel has
a great view over the skyline of Thailand's capital. It was opened in 2006. A roof pool on the third
floor was just like a floating water basin on the sky. When we stayed in the Millennium Hilton in
2009, after the incident of illegal occupation of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, all hotel
staff members were very kindly with a smiling face. However, when we stayed in September 2012,
their attitude was so bad, as if we could not believe that this was the same hotel we stayed before,
making our mind not ever use Millennium Hilton Hotel, Bangkok in the future.

The number of total guest rooms is 543. Of these, 69 are the smoking-room. The smoking-room
rate　to total guest rooms in the Millennium Hilton Bangkok Hotel is 12%. All restaurants are smoke
-free.

2006年にオープンした新しいホテルで、チャオプラヤ川沿いに建つ。高層階からの眺めはすばらしい。
3階のプールからはバンコクの高層ビルとチャオプラヤ川とが宙に浮いているよううに見える。2008年の
空港占拠事件の後に宿泊したためか、ホテル従業員はとてもにこやかで親切だったが、2012年に宿泊した
ときは、これが同じホテルかといぶかる対応の悪さがあり、幻滅を覚えた。

Four season Hotel in Bangkok is a deluxe, classic, high-grade accommodation. In a courtyard,a tropical
plant grows thick, and many carps are swimming in the pond. The correspondence of staffs is good.
The total guest rooms are 354, smoking rooms are 113. As a result, the smoking-room rate to total is
32%.

豪華でクラシックなロビー、客室設備、熱帯植物が繁茂し、鯉が泳ぐ中庭、格調ある上品なホテルがバンコク
・フォー・シーズンズである。スタッフの対応も良い。総客室数、354,喫煙客室数、113。その比率は32％。


Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok


This hotel is not recommended for the customer services.

The Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok is located at the two-minute waking distance fromthe Chit Lom
BTS station. A large white building is outstanding in a busy Bangkok street. All visitors have to accept
an extend security check before entering the hotel. From theattitude of hotel staffs, we did not feel
warmth. No information about the hotel was disclosed, including the number of a guest room.
However, we can find the total guest rooms are 380, according to a guidebook. This hotel is not
recommended to all tourists except for aperson who makes much of security in fact.


JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok


JW Marriott Hotel. A business man often uses this hotel. The interior is based on the black granite.

This high-grade business hotel is using a black granite stone in many facilities. A hotel staff at the front
desk is friendly.The total guest rooms are 441. Smoking rooms are 84, resulting the smoking-room rate
to the total is 19%.

ビジネスマンの利用が多いホテル。ロビーフロアを始め、黒御影石をふんだんに使用している。北米の
マリオットホテルは100％全室禁煙化しているが、その力はタイ王国までは至っていない。
総客室数、441室、喫煙室、84室で、その割合は19％である。

This hotel is connected with the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, and it locates at the very convenient
place for an airtraveler. The total rooms are 612, of which nonsmoking rooms are 498, consisting of
81.4% of guest rooms. The smoking-room rate to the total guest rooms is 18.6%.

The Krungsri River, a luxurious four-star hotel with great heritage, is nestled in the energy and excite
-ment of the ancientcity of Ayutthaya. A city once was a capital of the majestic kingdom of Thailand,
and a place where thousands of people visit every day.The Krungsri River invites you to explore the
many possibilities within Ayutthaya. The hotel is located in the heart of Ayutthaya right off the Nara
-esuan Bridge that crosses the great Pa Sak River.

The total guest rooms of Krungsri River Hotel are 201. Of these, 133 are smoking rooms, which are
located on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th floor of the building.The smoking-room rate to total guest rooms
is 66% , which is highest in the studied hotels in Thailand.

クルンシリ リバー ホテル。1993年に開業したアユタヤ随一と言われる高級ホテル。鉄道駅から
500メートルで歩いて行ける。バンコク市を経てバンコク湾に流れ込む Pa Sak River沿いに建つ。
世界遺産の遺跡群を巡る拠点として便利な位置にある。

バー入口に大きな禁煙マークがあった。しかし、レストランも全面禁煙であるのにレストラン側に禁煙標識は
ない。 喫煙所は屋外にある。喫煙客室は非常に多く、4階、5階、6階、7階と合計、133室ある。総客室数は
201室であるので、喫煙客室の比率は、66％に及ぶ。この数字は筆者が世界各地を回って調査したホテルの中で、
マカオのホテルの次に高い。もっとも日本のようにすべての客室で喫煙できるホテルもあるので、タイ王国の
ホテル事情を批判する資格はないように思われる。

　In Hotel Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, total guest rooms are 612, of which non-
smoking rooms are 498, consisting of 81.4% of guest rooms. The rests of guest rooms are smoking.
The percentage of smoking rooms at this hotel is 18.6%.

A partial smoking bans in hotels do not protect guests from dangers of tobacco.

Hotels, that have the smoking and non-smoking rooms, do not adequately protect people from the
dangers of tobacco. That is the conclusion of a new San Diego State University study published in
the Journal Tobacco Control.

Researchers took air quality readings and tested surfaces for evidence of tobacco-smoke in a random
sample of San Diego hotel rooms. Ten hotels had complete smoking bans while 30 others had some
dedicated non-smoking rooms. Compared with hotels that prohibit smoking, hotels with only partial
bans had higher surface and air nicotine levels.

That was true even in the non-smoking rooms in hotels with a partial ban.Only five U.S. states ,
Indiana, Michigan, North Dakota, Vermond and Wisconsin, require all motel and hotel rooms to
be smoke free. Four cities in California, including Santa Monica, have such a law. Researchers say
guests who want to avoid tobacco exposure should stay only in smoke-free hotels.
