The Auckland metropolitan area in the North Island of New Zealand, is the largest and the most populous
urban area in the country with a population approaching 1.4 million residents, 31 percent of the country's
population. Demographic trends indicate that it will continue to grow faster than the rest of the country.
ニュージーランド北島にあるオークランド都市圏は、国内最大かつ最も人口の多い都市圏であり、人口は140万人

To protect people from the health effects of second-hand smoke, smoking in all hospitality industries*is prohibited in New Zealand.
Smoking is also banned in all offices, shops, shopping centres, airplanes, public transport and taxis.
*The hospitality industry ＝ Hotels, restaurants, casinos,catering (food service), resorts,clubs and any
other service position that deals with a tourist.
受動喫煙による健康への影響から人々を守るため、ニュージーランドではすべてのホスピタリティ産業*での喫煙が禁止されています。
また、すべてのオフィス、店舗、ショッピングセンター、飛行機、公共交通機関、タクシーでも喫煙が禁止されています。
Smoking restriction of the world airports
帰路は南島北端の町、ブレナムから北島、オークランドへは１８人乗りの小型プロペラジェット機を利用した。ブレナム国際空港、オークランド
国際空港、いずれも禁煙法に基づき空港施設および併設のレストラン内部は全面禁煙で、「Smokefree Area」との標識が掲げられている。
オークランド空港で喫煙できる場所は外部で、しかも車寄せ道路を一つ越えた向こう側のスペースが指定されている。空港出入口近辺でタバコを
吸うことは全く禁止され、空港利用者が少しでも受動喫煙の被害に遭遇しないような規制処置がとられている。
ニュージランドヘラルドによれば、2006年、スモークフリーの環境にて生活する権利を支持するニュージランド国民は、90％を越えており、2001年
当初、バーにおける全面禁煙に賛成する人は38％に過ぎなかったが、2006年の調査時点では74％まで増加した。最近では90％以上の人がタバコの
煙とは無縁のスモークフリーの家で生活している。

ニュージランドを周遊し、タバコ販売状況、受動喫煙防止への取り組みを見てきたが、飲食店、公共交通機関などの閉鎖空間内の全面禁煙は、国や
地方自治体が条例で強制すべきことであり、自国の国民が有害なタバコ副流煙にさらされて健康障害を引き起こすことを無視、放置していることは、
とりもなおさず首長を含め、行政機関の怠慢に他ならない。ただ、期待された神奈川県条例で先進国では2003年にすでに放棄した「人がそこで働く
分煙」方式を採用し、世界でもまれに見る健康面では大きく後退した制度を、2010年から施行することは非常に遺憾である。
