Christchurch lies near the centre of the east coast of the South Island. It is the largest city in the Island.
Christchurch has one of the highest-quality water supplies in the world. The water sources are more
than 50 pumping stations from aquifers which conduct it from the foothills of the Southern Alps and
provide natural filtering. Christchurch has a dry air, with the mean daily maximum air temperatures of
22.5 C in January, and 11.3C in July.In winter it is common for the temperature to fall below 0 at night.

南島最大の都市、クライストチャーチ中心部に路面電車が走る。1954年に廃止されたが、1995年にツアー
専門の観光電車として復活した。運賃は大人、12ドル50セント（約1,050円）。僅か2.5キロの路線であるが、
市の中心部を四角の形に巡回する。クライストチャーチ中心商店街を回るのなら無料シャトルバスがおすすめ。
黄色いユニークな円形のボディ。10分〜15分間隔で運行している。タダで利用させてもらうせいか、乗客は
降車時に運転手にサンキューと礼を言っている。納税者に感謝すべきと思うが、難しいことはこの際抜きに
して街を楽しもう。
