Amtrak Express: Boston to Miami

(R) East coast of the United States. A long distance train runs along the coast line of North Atlantic Ocean.
There are two trains heading to Miami from Boston. One is the Silver Star, which leave the South Staion,
Boston at 6:05. Silver Meteor leaves Boston at 9:25. Both long-distance trains arrive at Miami after the
overnight run. They provide a dinning car and a sleeper vehicle. The total distance between Boston and
Miami is 2,222 km.
Amtrak Miami Station
Miami is the southern terminus of Amtrak's Atlantic Coast services, with its final station located in the suburb
of Hialeah. The location of Miami Amtrak railway terminal station suddenly becomes busy when it comes
close at 18:00, because two long-distance trains arrive about this time. It is difficult to find this station by
a car, and the area is somewhat creepy even in the daytime. It became very quiet after all passengers left
the station by a connected bus.

No-Smoking Policy
Where and When Smoking is Permitted・・
On Amtrak trains and other services where there is no smoking, passengers may smoke on station platforms
at longer stops only when announced by train crews. Smoking elsewhere and at other times is not permitted.

米国東北部、ボストン・South Station を出発してマイアミに向かう列車は２本ある。ボストン6時05分発の Silver Star と
ボストン9時25分発のSilver Meteor である。両者とも一昼夜かけてマイアミ駅に到達する。食堂車、寝台車を連結し、
長い長い鉄路（2,222キロ）の旅を提供する。
マイアミ鉄道ターミナルは夕方６時近くなると急にあわただしくなる。2本の長距離列車が到着するためだ。ターミナル駅の
位置は非常に分かりにくく、また昼でもすこし不気味な地域にある。ほんのひとときの賑わいも、乗客が立ち去った後は
怖いほどの静けさとなる。
全米に鉄道網を伸ばししてアムトラックの車内では全面禁煙となっている。西日本地区の鉄道業者のように2時間以上の走行
時間が禁煙の限度で、たとえ全車両禁煙としても、その一部に喫煙室を設ける愚かな行為を行っている。これは世界の公共
交通機関が行っている鉄道施設内での全面禁煙に造反することで、24時間におよぶ鉄道旅行中も車内での喫煙を一切許可
しないアムトラックの方針を見習うべきであろう。
