Oslo 2016

As of January 2016, the municipality of Oslo has a population of 658,000, while the population of the city's
urban area was 942,000. The metropolitan area had an estimated population of 1.71 million. The population
is currently increasing at record rates, making it the fastest-growing major city in Europe. This growth stems,
for the most part, from international immigration and related high birth rates, but also from intra-national
migration.

Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world. In the 2015 update of the Worldwide Cost of Living
survey by EIU, Oslo now ranks as the third. Oslo does have the most expensive housing market in Norway.
Meanwhile, prices on goods and services remain some of the highest of any city. Oslo hosts 2,654 of the
largest companies in Norway. A whole group of oil and gas companies is situated in Oslo.
