Autumn- tinted Quebec, Mont-Laurier.


One of nature's grandest color displays - the autumn changes tree leaf color. It will develop as early as
mid-September in the northern latitudes of North America. This annual autumn change of tree leaf will
be manifest itself in living fall color through September to October in Canada. It will be extended to the
area of the states of Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Michigan and to the most North America.

In the border of Quebec and Ontario, the area closed by the Ottawa River is full with the autumn tints.

Smoking rooms in hotels at Mont Tremblant, Quebec

The Fairmont Tremblant has 15 smoking rooms on the 3rd floor. The total number of guest rooms is 314, and the percentage of smoking
room is about 5%. Marriott ResidenceInn at Mont Tremblant is completely smoke-free, and no space for smoking is provided inside of
the hotel.

Montreal is the second largest city in Canada, and the most populous in the province of Quebec. The official language is
French. Montreal is the second largest French-speaking city in the world. A resident over 70 per cent in the metropolitan
Montreal speaks French at home. A snowfall is abundant with an average of 2.175 meters during the whole winter.
The coldest month of the year is January, with average low of -14.7C.

Smoking Ban in Montreal's Hotels

When you make a hotel room reservation, the option may not be so big. Many hotels in Montreal have extinguished
the option of lighting-up indoors.
There are no-smoking rooms at Montreal Marriott,which has total 611 guest rooms, and Hilton Montreal Bonaventure, which has a total of 395
guest rooms.In contrast, Le Centre Sheraton Montreal Hotel has the total of 825 rooms, and 85 smoking rooms, which are located on the 16th,
27th and 32nd floor.The percentage of the smoking room in this hotel is 10.3%.

Rail shuttle between Montreal-Trudeau and downtown Montreal

Aeroports de Montreal is planning to introduce an express rail shuttle service to accelerate access to the airport
from thedowntown districts. This 20 km long shuttle, with departures every 20 minutes, would make the trip in
under 20 minutes. The basic plans of the project, including price and choice of the destination will be made in
the fall of 2009, with an expected end date for the entire project between 2013 and 2015.

北米の紅葉の季節は10月上旬に訪れるが、ミシガン湖周辺、ニューイングランド地方一帯が一斉に赤、黄色に木々の葉を染め
1年でも最も美しい季節を迎える。ケベックも例外ではない。セント・ローレンス川沿いの一帯、ケベック州南部は秋の紅葉で
彩られ、大地はその落ち葉で埋まり、やがて来る長く厳しい冬の訪れを静かに待つ。

ケベック州・ロレンシャン高原訪問記: モントリオールの西北部、約120キロの地点に紅葉を売り物としているロレンシャン
高原がある。ロレンシャンは真っ赤に染まった紅葉の林の広がる静かな山間の街と想像して赴いたので、到着した時、自分の
目を疑った。そもそもスキー場として開発されたので致し方ないとも言えるが、まるでカナダのデズニーランドだ。古いパリの
街並みを再現したのであろうが、あと20年もすれば多少は落ち着きある場所になるかも知れない。街には多くの中国人団体客と
日本人団体客の姿が見られ中国語と日本語があちこちで飛び交っていた。

トロントに次いで第2の都市、モントリオールはフランス語圏の中心地である。筆者にとって3回目の訪問である。最初は45年
前の1962年にこの地を踏んだが、その時代に比べ大きく変化したとの印象はない。今、高層ビルの立ち並ぶダウンタウンの
地下には巨大地下街がある。地下鉄にも連絡しており寒い冬には非常に便利と思われる。著名な店などが集中しているのは、
サント・カトリーヌ通り(Rue Sainte-Catherine)である。

ホテル喫煙室を条例の最大許容範囲まで広げるところはなく、主要なホテルでは全室禁煙か喫煙ルームは10%程度のようで
ある。今回利用したSheraton Montreal は825室のうち、約85室が喫煙ルームで、16階、27階、32階に設けていた。
これに対し、Montreal Hiltonは395室、全室が smoke-free、北米にあるホテル全面禁煙を打ち出したMontreal Marriott
は611室、全室 smoke-freeで,ホテル内に喫煙できる場所は全くない。
ロレンシャン高原の中心的な存在が7階建てのフェアモントホテルであり、山の中腹にそびえている。全室314室のうち喫煙
ルームは3階に15室ある。一方、近くのマリオット・レジデンス・インは全室127室、全面禁煙ですべての客室が禁煙室で
あり、喫煙ルームは一つもない。

「モントリオール・ピエール・エリオット・トルドー国際空港はインテリアをはじめ、造りがとてもモダンでハイセンスな
雰囲気だ」との記載がJTB ワールトガイドに出ていたので時間をさいて訪問してみたが、世界の洗練された空港を見た後
だけに、あまりの田舎くささに失望した。モントリオール空港内は全面禁煙であるが、禁煙標識は意外に少なく、空港出入口
と天井にいくつかの禁煙標識が表示されていた。空港施設外部にはSMOKING AREA が設けられていたが、多くの乗客は
指定場所以外のところで喫煙していた。

カナダに於けるタバコ価格(200本入りカートン)はケベック州が一番安く、平均、$70.23、次がオンタリオ州で$74.54である。
他の州では$76.37から$93.08の間で販売されている。
