The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of ancient
volcanic eruptions. It is located on the northeast cost of Northern Ireland. It is now owned and
managed by the National Trust and is the most popular tourist spot in Northern Ireland.

ジャイアンツ・コーズウエイ
北アイルランド唯一の世界遺産、ジャイアンツ・コーズウエイはアイルランド国土の北海岸に位置する。古い溶岩
台地の地肌が露出している。独特の6角柱は吹き出したマグマが冷えて出来たそうだ。日本には北海道の玄武岩、
福井県の東尋坊など類似した奇岩が多いので、そう目新しいとも思えないが、この地に暮らす人々にとっては
不思議な景観ともいえだろう。駐車場から歩いて15分ほどかかるが、有料のミニバスも運行されている。

インホメーションデスクから下に降りたところに、ジャイアンツ・コーズウエイ駅がある。運行しない日もあるが、
ミニ蒸気機関車が走っている。往復６ポンド。歩道が整備されているので片道を歩くのもよい。
