Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Netherlands
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the Netherlands' main international airport,
located 9.1km southwest of
Amsterdam. It also ranks as the 3rd largest in the world by international
passenger traffic as well as
Europe’s 5th by overall passenger volume. Schiphol has five main runways,
plus one used mainly by
general aviation aircraft.

Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel, which is directly connected with the
Schiphol Airport.
All rooms are smoke-free.
There are two airport hotels inside and attached to the Schiphol International
Airport.
Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel has a total of 406 guest rooms.
Mercuse Hotel Amsterdam has a total of 33 rooms. Both hotels provide a clean smoke-free room.

The ratio of a smoking guest room to the total hotel rooms was calculated,
based on-the-spot investigation.
The Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the national Dutch train operator, has
a major passenger train
station directly underneath the passenger terminal complex and offers the most convenient and cheap
transportation to and from Amsterdam. This station is a stop for the international high-speed train,
Thalys, connecting the airport with a direct train connection to Antwerp,
Brussels and Paris,which
runs 12 times a day, German train to Berlin 6 times a day, taking about 6.5 hours from Schiphol
to Berlin.

Smoking restriction of the world airports
A Direct Rail Link connects Schiphol International Airport to Amsterdam
central station and is the fastest
and the most convenient way to get to the city center. Trains run every
10 minutes,and cost 3.60 Euro
for a single journey. A penalty fine of 35 Euros will be charged to you, if you do not have a valid ticket
with you on the train.

オランダは日本やドイツなど同じく鉄道密度の高い国である。ヨーロッパの代表的空港の一つに数えられるスキポール
空港からアムステルダム中心及び近郊へのアクセスは非常に良く、頻繁に電車や列車が運行されている。空港から
アムステルダム中央駅への所要時間はノンストップで15分と短く、二駅停車する電車に乗っても20分足らずで到着する。
ただ15番線から発着する場合はエスカレーターもエレベータもなく、重い荷物を抱えている場合は大変である。
中央駅出入口には改札口のある部分とない部分とがある。オランダの多くの駅では改札口は単に切符を刻印する役割を
果たしていると思われる。
数多くの国際列車もアムステルダムを中心に伸びている。高速列車が運行されパリ北駅とアムステルダム間を4時間
あまりで結ぶ。ドイツ鉄道のインターシティはベルリン間には一日、6便がある、6時間30分で到着する。国際間の
列車運行は想像以上に頻繁である。現在、ベルギーの首都、ブリュッセルからスキポール空港までの高速鉄道を建設
中で近く開業する。
スキポール空港(アムステルダム国際空港)オランダ最大の空港で、出発客と到着客とが同じラウンジと搭乗ゲート
を供用している。搭乗前に必ず行われるセキュリテイチェックは搭乗ゲートにて行われている。
2008年1月、「アムステルダム・スキポール空港ターミナルビル内、レストラン、カフェ、航空会社ラウンジを含む、
全ての場所で全面禁煙となった」と伝えられていたが、この報道は正確ではなかったようだ。今回の検証旅行で明らか
になったことは、空港3階喫茶店の奥に喫煙ブースが設置されていたことだ。2階のパスポートコントロールから
ここを見上げると、もうもうたるタバコの紫煙がガラス越に見えていた。喫茶店は空港施設ではなく、この喫煙室は
喫茶店の中に設けられた「分離した喫煙室」と解釈すべきなのか?
