木柵線（文湖線）1996年に開通した台北市で最初の捷運（MRT）路線であり、台北市中心部から台北市南東部の木柵、
動物園へと至る。他の台北捷運の路線と違い、自動運転システムによる運行を行っている。路線の全長は、10.5km。
2009年7月に全通した内湖線に伴い、動物園ー木柵−忠孝復興−松山機場−内湖−南港を結ぶ 。忠孝復興駅
（Zhongxiao Fuxing）は板南線と木柵線とが交差する重要な駅である。台北の中心地区にあり駅周辺は繁華街となって
おり、多くのショップや飲食店が立ち並ぶ。

MRT忠孝復興駅周辺には多くの店舗が建ち並び、夜はいっそうの賑わいを見せる。繁華街を背景にＭＲＴ電車が走行する。
高架の木柵線ホームと地下の板南線とを直結する長いエスカレータがあり、資生堂の広告が眼前に大きく迫る。乗り換え
客などで混雑するMRT忠孝復興地下駅とMRT台北駅のホ−ムには転落防止の防御柵がある。乗降時に解放されている時に
は赤いランプが点滅し注意を促している。高架を自動運転で走る木柵線のすべての駅には、上まで達する防御壁が設置
されている。

観光案内に記されているMRT駅周辺では整備されたコンドミニアムや商業施設が見られるが、一歩横道にそれると、
そこには台北庶民の暮らしがある。

現在の木柵線では４輌編成で運行しているがホームは６両編成までを想定して作られている。木柵線の後に建設された台北
MRTはすべてワンマン運転による電車方式を採用している。その理由は自動運転システムは大量輸送の面で、,その役割を
十分発揮出来ないことにある。

猫空ロープウェイは台北動物園西側より台湾茶の産地として有名な猫空地区（標高300メートル）まで登る。2007年7月
から供用されたが故障が多発、さらに2008年10月の台風により地滑りが発生、運行休止に追い込まれている。筆者が
訪れたときは麓の廃業したマクドナルド店を含め、ゴーストタウンのように静まりかえっていた。
